On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, received His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios of Colonia accompanied by the esteemed Archon Marios Minaides, Chairman of the Association of Greek Orthodox Communities in Great Britain, to discuss matters pertaining to the welfare of the local Church. During the cordial meeting, their Eminences reaffirmed their brotherly love and united vision for the progress and welfare of the Church. They expressed their concerns over the recent distortion of truth in some publications on social media, which have not been encouraged or supported by His Eminence Athanasios, and in the spirit of unity, they ask all the faithful to cease the various divisive and misleading actions threatening the oneness of the Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom.
His Eminence the Archbishop, once again, thanked Metropolitan Athanasios for his many years of service, as well as for his good-will and readiness to support and aide the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Archdiocese, and the local community in every aspect. In this spirit, and as agreed upon, Metropolitan Athanasios will continue residing in Wood Green until the end of July 2021 while simultaneously facilitating the process of future administration. He will thereafter be permitted to serve all the Divine Services as a Metropolitan of the Ecumenical Throne within the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain.
The meeting concluded in a spirit of fraternal love and solidarity, and with their joint prayers for the growth of the parishes of the Dormition of the Theotokos and St. Barnabas in Wood Green.
