The Archdiocese, is in the process of renewing and strengthening the youth network, with the establishment of the Archdiocesan Youth Office. The office’s focus will be to introduce new ways of reaching out to our young people across the United Kingdom and Ireland, by providing resources, establishing new initiatives and ministries online – which has been our focus recently throughout the period of COVID 19 – as well as frequent events, talks, social gatherings, philanthropic work and pilgrimages. By God’s grace and the guidance of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas, we will create a network offering our young people the opportunity to express how the Church can serve them.
This vision of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas puts our younger generation at the forefront of our Church’s action and plan for the present and future, involving them in all aspects of ecclesial life.
The youth coordinator, Alexios Florides, before the lockdown, already visited some of our communities, meeting and listening to our young people’s requests and thoughts and has had several meetings with those involved in youth work, representatives from other Christian churches and schools, in order to cooperate and collaborate with those with suitable resources for a more united Orthodox Christian witness in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew importantly dedicated this year, 2020, to the Youth – and is also the first full year of our Archbishop Nikitas’ Archpastoral ministry in London. Our Archdiocesan youth office and committee will be devoted to this calling and challenge, to invite and welcome our young people back to the ark of salvation and spring of eternal joy: Christ’s Church.
