His Eminence at a conference on modern slavery

An international conference was co-organized by the St Mary’s University of London and the Holy Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, on Friday and Saturday 15-16 October, on aspects of modern slavery and human trafficking. The conference focused on existing and emerging innovative practices to support victims who survived and escaped from such situations of exploitation and violence.

The sessions were classified based on the following topics:

  • Contribution of the public health system.
  • Prevention through partnerships.
  • Protection and provision of pastoral care for survivors from church and religious communities.
  • The role of creative interventions, including theatre, music, and art in general, in the approach to recovery and reintegration into society.

His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain has already dealt thoroughly with this modern scourge. In his speech and his interventions, he analysed both the ways and the current methods of dealing with the problem and the practical cooperation of the bodies involved to accelerate the procedures for the support of these victims.

The presentation of His Very Reverence Fr. Niphon Tsimalis, a member of the organizing committee, focused on the dynamics of coordinated actions to support the victims of modern slavery and the particular importance of their immediate rehabilitation.
